Fire Safety Inspector

GMBS are a boutique independent consulting engineering practice specialising in essential services. Our core business is the inspection of essential fire and safety measures in commercial buildings for building owners and managing agents, this includes both fire protection systems (e.g. sprinklers, fire detection and alarm systems etc.) and also mechanical air handling components (e.g. fire dampers, stair pressurisation systems).  



The ideal candidate will preferably have past experience in the fire protection industry and have an aptitude to progress further into understanding the mechanical aspects of commercial buildings OR have past experience mechanical / HVAC experience and want to expand their knowledge into fire protection systems. The opportunity will be for the person to further their existing skill set by working within our team. 



  • Be keen and able to work within our team and represent GMBS to our clients in a professional manner.
  • Carry out inspections of essential services against relevant standards of performance - collate field results and produce compliance reports.
  • Attend building system interface testing, working with any associated contractors or consultants to test and assess the operation of components.
  • Conduct passive fire inspections/assessments and produce compliance reports and passive registers. (Includes fire dampers and fire rating of penetrations).



  • We expect the person will have had at least 2 years experience in the fire or mechanical industry on commercial buildings
  • Have a detailed knowledge of applicable Australian Standards covering fire systems, passive requirements or mechanical air handling requirements. 
  • Ability to interpret building plans/drawings and service schematics.
  • To be skilled in effective methods of communication, both written and spoken.
  • To have the necessary level of competence in the use of hand tools, measurement devices, ladders, etc, to complete the duties of a Fire Safety Inspector.
  • To have the necessary level of personal fitness to complete the duties of a Fire Safety Inspector. The role sometimes involves physically demanding work.
  • A person qualified by FPA would be an advantage



GMBS offices are at BROOKVALE so it is preferred that the person will be within easy commute to Brookvale. Most of our buildings are in the city or Sydney metro area but there are occasional buildings outside this area.



The salary package would be dependent on the applicants existing skill set.
