Construction Engineer

Long-term contract opportunity - 12 months, Oil and Gas/CSG experience highly regarded, Surat Basin - 15 days on 13 days off.

Currently Queenslands Energy industry is in recovering strongly. As such we are now seeking an experienced Construction Engineer to fulfil a 12 month contract position based in Western Queensland working a family friendly 15/13 rotation.

As a key member of the Owners team the primary responsibility of the Construction Engineer is to Assist supervision and management in the development of construction and commissioning methodology/ project execution plans.

Responsibilities include though are not limited to:

  • Review of IFR project construction & commissioning documentation including SOW, Design Drawings, commissioning strategy etc
  • Assist supervision and management in the development of construction methodology/ project execution plans
  • Liaise with Construction Management and Contractors clarifying all design aspects to ensure that they are safely and efficiently constructed
  • Participation in design development workshops with Engineering Contractor (HAZIDs, Risk Reviews, Constructability, etc)
  • Assist Field engineering & completions with maintenance of accurate records (as-built mark-ups, punch lists, etc.)
  • Assist Field Engineering surveys and prepare detailed field sketches / reports / calculations
  • Provide advice on the technical resolution of construction and design queries and make recommendations
  • Carry out inspections and verifications in accordance with the approved Inspection & Test Plans
  • Lead / Participate in Project Readiness Review meetings
  • On-site coverage for all shut-down works
  • Generate fortnightly handover record for B2B for each swing transition
  • Scope of Work reviews
  • HAZID / HAZOP sessions
  • 30%, 60% & 90% Model reviews
  • Develop procedures as required (i.e. purge & leak tests etc.)
  • RFI & TQ development
  • Provide construction supervisor support
  • Schedule input
  • Assist with Completions dossier development
  • Site surveys / verification / photos
  • As-building requiring physical site presence & review. Note: The broader organisational assurance expectation is that as-building, particularly of facilities work, requires site verification via physical presence & inspection by the field Engineering.
  • Walkdowns of completed scope
  • Issue resolutions (incl. NCRs & CAs) where site visits are required to determine or confirm a particular condition.
  • Miscellaneous Contractor field queries
  • Inspection of materials should assistance be required from the materials controller


Experience will includes:

  • 3-5 years of Upstream Projects experience in the Oil & Gas industry (CSG experience advantageous)
  • Experience with Permit to Work (PTW) systems
  • Experience with, and commitment to, engineering systems, procedures and quality assurance
  • Experience in development of Procedures and ITPs
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with field safety management and commitment to safety
  • Experience of working within a controlled change management culture to ensure that any changes are fully assessed and approved Knowledge, Skills & Attributes:
  • Educated in technical or engineering discipline at tertiary level (first degree, or equivalent, preferred).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of business process re-engineering and change management
  • Knowledge of quantifying and assessing risk and developing risk mitigation strategies
  • Knowledge of all facets of engineering design, fabrication / construction and testing as well as appreciation of general project management.
  • Commercially aware, and able to apply this to realise asset improvement opportunities through project delivery
  • Able to apply appropriate standards in own area and has awareness of functional assurance processes.
  • Management of multiple issues and complex problems, with the ability to structure solutions that integrate effectively with other groups

The ideal candidate will be will locally based in the Surat basin or mobilise from Brisbane, on a highly sought 15/13 rotation. In return for your commitment you will be offered excellent day rate commencing for 12 contract term along with the opportunity to establish yourself with an international expert.
