About the role

The successful candidate will be Responsible for overseeing the manufacture, testing, commissioning, acceptance and introduction into passenger service and maintenance of the next tranche of A-City EMUs. The project inspector duties include but are not limited to:

  • Observe and practice applicable site OHS and Quality policy, guidelines and procedures.
  • Product familiarisation
  • Review and observe set-up of vehicle manufacture production line.
  • Review Quality Management system of supplier and monitor compliance
  • Review previous build issues register and ensure identified issues are addressed in the new production process
  • Audit production and process plans and processes against agreed standards between supplier and customer.
  • Plan and Participate in audits as required
  • Inspection of selected incoming parts, materials and documentation against defined criteria and finished products against defined criteria
  • Interpret, read, observe and report compliance with relevant technical specifications and standards
  • Observe and report on production and ensure adherence to procedures
  • Participate in First Article Inspections (FIA) and Factory Acceptance testing (FAT)
  • Conduct tests of mechanical systems, collect and analyse data, assemble and install mechanical assemblies to support Mechanical Engineers and Engineering Technologists
  • Managing client stakeholder communication (internal/external) throughout the duration of each project
  • Review scope of works, work instructions and technical specification that enable successful system integration
  • Communicate effectively with the ability to discuss a wide range of issues to people across all levels of stakeholder organisations.
  • Conducting or taking part in risk assessments
  • Actively identify and report problems and non-conformances and oversee corrective actions relating to the ongoing management of projects.
  • Continually monitor and report progress and identify potential risks & opportunities within each project
  • Coordinating Client Project Engineers, administrators and/or planners
  • Ensure contractual obligations are met and maintained and reported upon
  • Provide advice to the customer in relation to Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs)
  • This position also requires providing mentoring to graduates and junior engineers

Skills and experience

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in a similar role, including scheduling in MS Project or equivalent, risk management, safety and quality assurance.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Excel and Word and MS Project.
  • Strong problem-solving aptitude
  • Willingness to work both from our head office in Ivanhoe and at various sites.

The following skills and experience will be looked on favourably:

  • 2D or 3D CAD software knowledge
  • Proven experience in all aspects of Rail including traction equipment, Rail operations, commissioning and Maintenance Planning and execution.
  • Experience in EMU testing and Commissioning
  • Broad overview of Rail operations
