Payroll Manager

Mort & Co has evolved to become Australia's largest privately-owned beef cattle lot feeding, management and marketing company and a leading exporter of premium Australian Beef. With a strong growth trajectory, the business continues to pioneer the latest agricultural innovations across a broad range of complementary businesses, including fertilisers and stock feeds.

We are currently looking for a permanent full-time Payroll Manager to join our finance team in Toowoomba office. Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will be responsible for the management of the end-to-end payroll process across Mort & Co and associated entities.  This role requires a trustworthy team player who can work collaboratively across multiple departments to value add our payroll functions.

 Functions of the role include:

  • End-to-end processing of fortnightly payroll for Mort & Co and associated entities
  • Manage payroll system optimisation and configuration
  • Ensure payroll compliance with state and federal workplace legislation including Awards
  • Maintain payroll records and assist with new team member onboarding
  • Effectively handle payroll enquiries
  • Preparation and lodgement of payroll tax and superannuation
  • End of month reporting to department managers
  • Additional finance related tasks (as required) including; inventory, insurance, capex, compliance, budgeting and fixed assets
  • Other duties as required by our Financial Controller

The successful applicant will have:

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar payroll management position
  • High-level communication skills with an ability to gain trust and confidence and build strong relationships
  • A tertiary qualification in Business, Finance or Accounting would be highly regarded
  • Absolute confidentiality and exceptional accuracy, analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Solid understanding of payroll compliance regulations, Fair Work Act and best practice
  • A strong work ethic, initiative, and be reliable, conscientious and self-motivated
  • Ability to interpret and apply employee contracts, awards and enterprise agreements
