Media and Communications Officer

About the role:

We have a newly created position for a Media & Communications Officer to join our supportive and busy team.  

This role will work in line with the Institute's strategic goals and values to increase the profile and reputation of the Florey and its research through media and communications initiatives. 

Key responsibilities will include:

• Developing content all media and communication channels, i.e. press materials, social media, web, etc. and external publications, i.e. Brain Matters newsletter, Annual report, brochures, etc
• Working closely with research staff to promote their research through media and communications activities
• Working closely with the Media and Communication Manager to build and maintain relationships with journalists, patient advocacy groups, patient advocates and other stakeholders to increase the public profile of the institute and its research staff
• Monitoring and responding to inquiries from the general public

This role is permanent full-time reporting to the Media and Communications Manager.

This position provides a competitive remuneration package commensurate to experience. 

About you:

The successful candidate will have relevant media, communications or public relations qualifications and/or experience. They will uphold integrity and professionalism at their highest level, be able to work with different stakeholders across all levels of the Institute and are comfortable working independently as well as part of a team.

You have proven experience in the following: 

• Excellent written and oral communication skills with demonstrated ability to pitch stories to media and write clearly, concisely and appropriately for a range of audiences
• Highly adaptable and works well under pressure in a fast-paced environment often with tight deadlines
• Superior attention to detail, particularly in writing and proof-reading
