Reporting to the Head of Fund Accounting, this senior tax opportunity will be accountable for the development of the funds tax strategy as well as advisory and compliance matters.
About the role:
The purpose of this position is to:
Further develop and maintain Funds’ tax strategy, tax risk management framework, tax policies and tax procedures
Provide robust tax advice and commercial insight supporting the Funds’ objectives to deliver member benefits and value
Coordinate tax compliance activities with advisors, the administrator and the custodian for the Funds and corporate/investment entities.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Responsible for liaising with the ATO and other revenue authorities.
Ensure that our client meet their tax obligations and comply with ATO rulings.
Manage the ATO relationship and ATO risk assurance reviews. Understand where the Funds sit on the ATO’s risk radar and the implications.
Liaise with the external tax advisers as necessary.
Assist with the relationship with internal and external audit in relation to tax.
Responsible for custody relationship with respect to all investment tax operational activities.
Apportion tax expense, current tax and deferred tax between the investment options. Advise on tax true-up adjustments for unit pricing.
Assist with the formulation and implementation of new investment options from a tax perspective.
Monitor tax legislative changes and ATO rulings and guidelines, consider impact on Funds and advise the Finance Team, Executive Team and ACC on those with material impact.
Review the Funds’ tax policy (including tax risk appetite) and tax risk management framework at least annually and develop them as needed. Advise the ACC of amendments to the policy and framework.
Review tax related procedural documentation on an ongoing basis to ensure consistency with actual practice.
Identify the tax consequences of investment decisions being considered by the Funds. Perform tax due diligence on proposed unlisted and structured investment vehicles.
Provide robust tax advice on Successor Fund Transfers under consideration.
The successful candidate will have:
Tertiary qualification in related field
CA or CPA
Skills and Experience:
At least 10 - 15 years of relevant experience
Demonstrated experience in financial management and reporting
Desirable experience in superannuation or similar
Well-developed understanding in auditing and taxation
Technical understanding of tax concepts and strategy, together with regulatory and legislative frameworks is a key requirement
Ability to translate complex ideas to a clear message that can be easily understood
Highly developed analytical skills
