About the role
Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the Fourth Engineer is accountable for carrying out repairs maintenance work and performing duties in the engine room and around the vessel as instructed by the First Engineer.
To meet these accountabilities, the Fourth Engineer:
Passes on spare parts and stores requirements to the First Engineer and assists in the preparation of orders.
Assists with bunkering operations, transferring of fuel and pumping of sludge and waste oil.
Conducts work practices, training and inductions that conform with the work health and safety, and environmental requirements of Sercos environmental and quality and management systems;
Keeps engine room watches and carries out watch keeping duties in accordance with international, AMSA, MARPOL, WHS and Serco procedures.
Directs Integrated Ratings (IR) that form part of the watch.
Forms part of the UMS (Unmanned Machinery Space) duty rotation when required.
Assists in the upkeep of the Engine Room Log Book, oil record books and other engine room records.
Performs statutory duties as defined in emergency muster list.
Hands over to the oncoming Fourth Engineer, in person and with written notes.
Liaises with any person(s) or companies as required in the performance of responsibilities.
