Senior Accountant

McGrathNicol is a specialist Advisory and Restructuring firm trusted by the Australian Government and blue chip clients to partner with them to devise and implement pragmatic solutions for complex business issues.  

Due to continued growth in our Government Risk & Compliance team, we are seeking a suitably experienced Senior Accountant to join our Canberra office.

Your focus and responsibility is to provide a wide range of services to our clients including program and project management, corporate governance, risk management, management consultancy, financial and cost modelling, fraud control, forensic investigation, audit and assurance, procurement and probity. The team have extensive experience working with many Government agencies to provide high level, evidence based and independent assurance services, enabling Government agencies to understand how their programmes are performing , allowing them to make informed decisions about strategy, policy and future actions. 

What you will do:

  • Provide strategic advice on governance arrangements;
  • Analyse the financial viability risk of organisations;
  • Assess grant applications for Commonwealth funding;
  • Investigate fraudulent or non-compliant behaviour of recipients of Commonwealth funds; and
  • Strategic planning and business case analysis.

Who you are:

  • Demonstrated experience in Government Advisory, particularly Internal Audit;
  • Working towards, or have completed, the CA qualification;
  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills;
  • High attention to detail and a proactive attitude;
  • Ability to deal with sensitive matters confidentially and tactfully; and
  • High knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
