The purpose of this role is:

  • To provide professional and efficient service to the development industry and community that complies with Council's statutory and regulatory responsibilities in the functions of Development Assessment
  • Guide, manage and regulate the built and natural environment within the Bellingen Shire, whilst promoting an efficient, courteous and responsible image of Council
  • To promote quality sustainable development outcomes, implementing efficient and best practice processes, providing consistent, quality advice and effectively and efficiently assessing development applications
  • Contribute to the efficient and effective operation of the Planning Services Team

We are looking for applicants who meet the following criteria:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Planning or related discipline
  • Eligibility for membership of the Planning Institute of Australia
  • Experience in Development Assessment in accordance with the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 and Regulation 2000
  • Familiarity with Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016, Water Management Act 2000, Rural Fires Act 1997, Roads Act 1993, Protection of Environment Operations Act 1997, Local Government Act 1993 and other relevant planning and environmental legislation
  • High level, professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Thorough understanding of and ability to apply customer service techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to work co-operatively with other Divisions of Council
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise projects and manage multiple projects and work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated skills and ability to work effectively within a collaborative team
  • A current driver's licence

Hours of work: 35 hours per week

Salary: $72,746 - $82,930
