Perth Festival Head of Programming

We are an annually curated multi-genre arts festival in Perth, WA that showcases the very best of national and international film, theatre, circus, dance, literature and music. The Lotterywest Film season runs from November to April and the Perth Festival runs across February and March, but we are busy all year planning and preparing for delivery. Our team expands from a core team of 34 to over 200 at the peak of Festival creating a unique, fast paced and ever-changing working environment.

 

The role of Head of Programming is a rare and exciting full-time, permanent opportunity with Perth Festival and will be a key member of the executive team, reporting to the Executive Director. Working closely with the Artistic Director on the planning and delivery of the Program, this role is responsible for:

  • Leading the programming team to deliver the artistic program compliantly and within budget.
  • Overseeing the development and management of the annual festival program budget inclusive of artistic and associated operational considerations.
  • Overseeing the management of the Festivals Community Engagement program and Connect Program, including Arts Sector Development initiatives and Creative Learning programs.

 

With our Artistic Director and Program Associates taking the lead on the artistic programming, this role acts as the critical glue across all Festival departments, working practically and collaboratively to shape the final annual program. A strategic, organised and detail-oriented operator, our ideal candidate will demonstrate the following:

 

  • Extensive knowledge of the arts nationally and internationally as well as programming experience in a high-level multi-arts environment
  • An inspiring, patient and resourceful manager of people and projects
  • Experience with complex and challenging contract negotiation, specifically with Artists and Artistic Companies
  • Extraordinary budget management skills with an ability to think laterally and problem solve on every level
  • A deep understanding and appreciation for Marketing, Communications and Fundraising within an arts organisation
