Media and Communications Officer is responsible for coordinating and delivering VALSs Communication activities including: managing VALSs website, [email protected] email, social media communications; preparing regular content for various networks, and media releases; engaging with key stakeholders (including the police, law courts, VALS partners and media outlets); coordinating communications-related projects and providing advice to management.
Key Performance Indicators, Duties and Responsibility
Lead the implementation and monitoring of VALS Communication Plan
Produce compelling and newsworthy content (including media releases and opinion pieces) for a range of print and digital communications platforms, to promote VALS policy priorities and positions, VALS activities and stories that positively represent Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples and stories..
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of digital communications activities, providing regular reports and analytical commentary on the website, social media and digital marketing campaigns
Coordinate and deliver VALSs communication and public engagement activities to deadline and within set budget, including:
Website development, content creation and traffic maximisation
Media and social media strategy
Digital marketing campaigns
Design of VALS publications
Photography and videography
Specific communications projects
Develop and maintain relationships with journalists and assist in preparing spokespersons for media interviews
Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders, particularly in the legal and Aboriginal Community Controlled sectors, and identify opportunities to work collaboratively
Work in collaboration with all sections of VALS in identifying key priority areas and formulating key messages.
Monitor the latest news on traditional and social media channels and recommend appropriate courses of action
As directed, undertake other duties which are incidental and peripheral to the main tasks, provided that such duties are reasonably within the employees skills, competence and training
