About the opportunity
As a Trades Instructor, you will be responsible for overseeing the activities and behaviours of inmates in accordance with the inmates routines all of which will be used as input into their case management files. A key component of your role will be identifying inmates who may be at risk and advise the relevant staff.
Youwill play an integral role in assisting inmates in their rehabilitation by actively encouraging program participation and oversee their work. You will also be responsible for reporting any incidents or behaviours of inmates for the sentence management process. You would need to promote rehabilitation and reintegration, ensuring the safety and security in the centre and the community, and provide a safe and respectful environment to everyone in the centre. Part of your role will consist of report writing surrounding trade activities, incidents, equipment damage and administration records. You will also be responsible for managing inventory, stock take and ordering.
As a Trades Instructor you will impart trade knowledge to inmates whilst supervising their work, implement training programs, maintain up to date knowledge of current and emerging trends.
To be successful in this you will have;
- Hold your CertificateIII Fitting and Turning
- Certificate IV Training & Assessment or Full training will be provided to obtain this within the first year of employment.
- Certificate III Correctional Practice or Full training will be provided to obtain this within the first year of employment.
- Minimum 5 years Manufacturing / Maintenance Fitting experience
- Demonstrate a commitment to Serco's values and rehabilitation process
- Maintain high level of integrity and ethical behaviour
- Knowledge and understanding of Occupational Health & Safety requirements
- Well developed interpersonal and communication skills.
