About the role
Create, modify and distribute Financial Reports as required and assist in all areas of general financial reporting.
Ability to negotiate on important matters with a high degree of independence.
Ability to determine the strategic plans with minimal review by senior management.
Provide sound advice on major areas key issues of significance to the organisation.
Assist in the preparation of Council's annual budget, operational plan.
Assist in the preparation and development of Council's financial strategies and Plans.
Assist in preparation of periodic budget performance report.
Analysing achievability of revenue budgets or opportunities for additional income.
Assist in the administration of the core functions of the finance system and the integration of other relevant systems across Council business units.
Determining the true cost of Council services through the identification and aggregation of all costs attributed
Creation and maintenance of Chart of Accounts that ensures accounts and its structure meets the internal and external reporting requirements.
Participate in special projects to develop and maintain computerized financial models and other special projects.
Assist with the establishment, development and maintenance of systems and procedures used within the Finance Department.
Work in collaboration with and assist the team, manager and other key stakeholders to achieve business unit goals and Council priorities.
The employer may direct the employee to carry out such duties that are within the limits of the employee's skill, competence and training as per Clause 8 of Local Government (State) Award 2020.

Skills and experience
Degree in Finance or Business (Accounting Major) with extensive practical experience.
Full membership of any Australian Professional Accounting Bodies.
Proven ability to deliver and implement Financial business systems.
Experience in local government finance or similar environment.
Ability reason conceptually and solve complex business problems through input of suitable business solutions
Excellent Interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and educate staff.
Well developed written and oral communication techniques and ability to deal effectively with internal and external customers,
Well-developed skills in time management, setting priorities and planning.
Previous experience with Civica Authority or similar business system.
Sound knowledge and experience in applying accounting policies, principles and accounting standards.
Proven experience in coordinating a variety of tasks simultaneously to ensure effective service delivery.
