My client is a Sydney-based boutique investment office with operations across Australia, Asia and the US. With the appetite for their technology-focused funds extremely high they are keen to add to their high-performing team here in Sydney with an experienced Finance and Operations Manager.
This is a newly created role, pivotal in supporting the small yet experienced leadership team/founders who come with a wealth of expertise as founders, investors, and builders of technology and e-commerce businesses. With the business growing as planned, it's now time for a CA qualified solutions-focused Finance / Operations Manager with a compliance and risk aptitude to assist as they scale their investments and operations.
Reporting into a dynamic and commercially savvy CFO, the ideal candidate will appreciate the importance of risk while having an interest in discovering and resolving the issues, often with the support of the company's external lawyers and tax advisors.
The focus of the position:
Oversee all operational aspects of the business and its other business interests.
Support the CFO, Company Secretary, and Compliance Committee and liaise with professional advisers.
Operationally, this is a role that manages their long-term private investments & structures as well as providing operational support to our equities trading including trade & cash reconciliations and settlements, allocation of buy/sell orders.
The responsibilities - with weight frequency:
10% Ongoing - Financial accounting / financial reporting across the business and entities.
10% Quarterly /annual - Quarterly BAS statements and prepare work papers for annual tax returns for all entities and distribution statements for investors (working with tax advisors)
10% Ongoing- Work with CFO to prepare annual financial statements and complete annual audit with external auditors.
30% Ongoing - Oversee and manage the operations for wealth management and listed equities/share trading including trade and cash reconciliations, allocation of buy/sell orders to nominated accounts (in Netwealth Platform), liaison with brokers and Netwealth as required, ensuring cash liquidity and trade settlement.
20% Ongoing - Ensure that asset and asset valuations in Netwealth for stakeholders are accurate and provide reporting as required. 10% Ad hoc - Manage the onboarding process (e.g. new investor application process / KYC information, new broker account set up, etc)
10% Ad hoc - Review and documentation of systems, workflows, key controls, and ongoing improvement.
Competencies/type of person:
Top tier trained Chartered Accountant with c4years experience across Private Clients / Wealth and Investment Management and/or providing accounting and financial support within a high performing boutique wealth management firm in Australia.
Practical experience reporting to and advising clients at a senior/manager level. (Confidentiality, Integrity and Accuracy are pivotal)
Comfortable improving or implementing processes.
Ideally, be able to demonstrate a compliance and risk mindset. (Experience across ASX and ASIC matters and AFSL requirements would be ideal)
Experience in funds management, trust accounting and tax is preferred.
Experience in cash, treasury and private banking would also be useful.
Self-starter and task-oriented finisher and have a strong ownership mentality.
This role is very much about supporting the CFO and eventually owning the financial reporting, compliance, risk and processes across the business and its subsidiaries as they develop and grow over time.
