Dairy Farm Manager or Dairy Farm Hand with the opportunity to become Herd Manager Position available
We are seeking a motivated candidate or couple to work with us on our dairy farm.
This position would suit a person/or perhaps a couple who enjoy working outdoors and with animals and who may be thinking about a possible career change if not already involved in the agricultural sector.
The Dairy Farm Hand position primarily involves
- Gathering cows for milking,
- General Milking duties and clean-up,
- Calf Rearing
- Animal health and Mastitis Detection
- General farm duties as required.
The Dairy Farm Manager position involves duties listed above and is also responsible for
- Herd Health
- Pasture Management
- Computer and Herd Records
Farm experience is not essential as training is provided.
There is a great opportunity to progress from farm hand to farm manager as experience is gained, as we are looking for a long-term employee.
If you are unfamiliar with what is involved in the dairy industry, please take some time to research, so you have a greater understanding of what the dairy industry is about. Dairy farming can involve some long working days in all outdoor weather conditions, but can also offer some great flexibility and rewarding opportunities.
We currently milk around 250 cows in a 24 a side herringbone shed with automatic cup removers, stall gates, cow collars, and drafting gate (you can see similar sheds on YouTube). Our farm is located 15 minutes drive from Wonthaggi.
Hours of employment: 152 hours per 4 weeks, which is equivalent to 38 hours per week, more hours may be available, includes some weekend work. Above award wages and conditions as per the current Pastoral Award. Flexible working hours are available.
