Waterways Plant Operator

Permanent, full-time position working a 9-day fortnight, $60,578 to $64,597 per annum including applicable allowances, + 9.5% super, Be supported with ongoing training, development and career advancement.

Working as part of a dynamic team, this position is responsible for delivering maintenance services for the citys lakes and waterway reserves. This role focuses on natural reserves and roadsides, waterways, formed channels, wetlands, open water bodies, paths, bridges, fencing and signage within reserves.  

To be successful, together with a genuine passion for working outdoors you will have demonstrated practical experience in works on waterways, drainage, revegetation and erosion control and basic knowledge of construction and maintenance paths and trails. 

Key Selection Criteria  
Essential 

  • Qualifications and demonstrated relevant work experience to the positions key responsibility areas 

  • A HR license endorsement to enable operation of truck/trailer combinations of up to and in excess of 13.9-ton Gross Combined Mass  

  • A Chainsaw Operation Level 1 Certificate to enable cross cutting 

  • A Farm Chemical Handling Certificate to enable herbicide application with extensive experience on noxious weed control methods  

  • Basic knowledge of and ability to identify indigenous plants and environmental weeds. 

  • Demonstrated plant operation skills in: 

  • Operation of hand tools and light mechanical plant used in horticultural maintenance 

  • Dressing, levelling and grading of paths & trails surfaces 

  • Knowledge and experience of formed/unformed channel maintenance, revegetation and erosion control 

  • Basic knowledge in the construction of drains, paths, and pits  

  • Literacy and numeracy skills to maintain a diary, read instructions and perform chemical application calculations 

  • Knowledge and understanding of health and safety issues relevant to work activities and work area 

Desirable 

  • Marine Exemption 38 Low Complexity Duties (Coxswain Grade 2) 

  • Relevant Crane Driver (Front-end Loader) & Backhoe Certification 

  • A Chainsaw Operation Level 2 Certificate to enable tree felling and cross cutting 

  • Victorian Boat Operators License 

  • A First Aid Level 1 Certificate
