Based in the St Kilda Town Hall and during COVID-19 Pandemic, with Executive Leadership Team/DHHS direction, this role is able to work from home and is predominantly based online

About the Organisation 

The City of Port Phillip is an inner-city Council with around 900 employees who deliver more than 100 programs and services to our residents, businesses and visitors. These range from events and festivals, markets, childcare and immunisations, to libraries, management of parks and open space, rubbish collection, road maintenance and more.  

About the Role

Do you have strong vision to deliver sustainable communities, support businesses and reactivate public space We seek a confident, enthusiastic communicator with the ability to work at pace to deliver a large program of work with huge success.  You will be a strong team player who supports the Head of Economic Growth and Activation, Senior Public Space Coordinator and Industry Development Coordinator.

The primary objective of the City Growth and Culture Department is to support economic growth through business support and the reactivation of public space, and promotion of the many unique neighbourhoods in the City of Port Phillip. 

This is important at all times but even more so post-COVID-19, as our local community, spaces and businesses will be important as our community recovers from COVID-19, culturally, socially, environmentally and economically. As the Business Concierge you will participate in and manage the planning and delivery of strategic initiatives with the Economic Growth and Activation team within the City of Port Phillip. 


Serve as a single point of contact for businesses who have enquiries on how Council could support them

Respond to business enquiries (once elevated by the Economic Growth and Activation Officer) and refer these requests to the relevant area for action and monitor to ensure progress is made if it is not our Team

Advocate within the Organisation for the needs of business in terms of policies, process and their development to remove red tape

Build, maintain and manage a business database to better promote opportunities to our business community 

Help deliver / support delivery of Business Support Program linkages with other bodies and grant opportunities 

Support the Senior Public Space Coordinator with extended footpath trading and parklet initiatives across the municipality 

Develop and deliver Business Forums 

Build relationships with Real Estate Agents and work together to fill non-residential vacancies across Port Phillip, and provide reports on progress. 

Act as a point of contact for businesses in the municipality that may wish to establish a Traders Association and or explore the special rate process, together with the Industry Development Coordinator. 

Brief in, to the Communications team, marketing, promotional, media opportunities, design tasks etc 

Assist with submitting Grant applications 

Weekend and after-hours work will be required

Skills and Experience 

A be a problem solver and someone who is driven by delivering outstanding customer service.

Experience in: economic development; working with trader associations; building strong stakeholder relationships as outcomes; the ability to function as a member of a small team in a high pressure, service-based environment; and the ability to manage challenging stakeholders.

Possess highly-developed analytical and lateral thinking skills and the ability to take the initiative, drive change and implement innovations; excellent interpersonal, negotiation and persuasion skills, with the ability to use discretion and judgement in a complex business and political environment. 

Flexibility to work 38 hours/week including weekends and irregular weekday hours due to the nature of the role and meeting the needs of our communities.
