Group HSE & Sustainability Manager

The Position

An opportunity has arisen for a Group HSE & Sustainability Manager to be based in the Companys head office in Welshpool, to oversee its operations in Australia, Norway and South Africa.  Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this role critically supports our operations to deliver a Zero Harm plan in line with the Companys overall business strategy. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Working closely with the respective site General Managers and Executive Management team to define and set the strategy with regard to best in class Health & Safety practices across the organisation.
  • Develop and implement the systems and processes, and provide advice and guidance to operational leaders in the implementation of safety and sustainability systems to achieve Zero Harm.
  • Manage all aspects of health, safety, environment and sustainability across all business operations to reduce work process risk, raise safety awareness and promote safe and sustainable work practices.
  • Provide technical input, support and governance to the HSE Management System.
  • Review and maintain critical documentation and policies to ensure compliance with the respective legislation and currency with best practice.
  • Manage the implementation of processes and systems to mitigate risk across the business operations and sites.
  • Ensure safety and sustainability key metrics and key performance indicators are achieved, in consultation with area managers.
  • Report to the Executive Management team and Board level on safety performance across the organisation.
  • Prepare safety, environmental and sustainability reports.
  • Conduct incident investigations as required, making recommendations for preventions and corrective action.
  • Lead safety inspections and audits, maintaining up to date action and hazard registers.
  • Record, report and manage safety statistics.
  • Up-skill, mentor, and develop others within the organisation to ensure an embedded culture of safety across the organisation.
  • Promoting proactive and preventative safety communications, including developing and circulating safety alerts and bulletins, as well as leading site pre-start meetings.

The Candidate

To be successful in this role, you will possess the following:

  • Significant safety leadership and mining industry experience.
  • Tertiary qualification in WHS/HSE/OHS, risk or a related field Masters degree highly regarded.
  • Previous experience managing HSE policies, procedures, and systems for a multi-national organisation.
  • Extensive incident investigation and reporting experience.
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation, acts and policies.
  • Well-developed service orientation, highly developed business acumen and strategic thinking.
  • Strong analytical, reporting, and written communication skills, including being able to draw insight from this data and offer practical, data driven solutions.
  • Lead investigation and auditing competencies.
  • Ability to travel to internationally.
