Our Tasmania Operations currently undertakes a range of transport activities across the state. Reporting to the State Manager, this role requires an experienced leader with strong communication skills to manage all aspects of the transportation discipline. This will include safety and security compliances, route structures and development, personnel scheduling, work load assignments, cost control and measure driven performance. Regular travel throughout the state will be required with the role based predominantly in the North/North West of the state.
Manage and assist in the planning and execution of the daily transportation requirements of company drivers. (Remote and on site), includes long haul and short hauls operations, load dispatch and delivery follow up.
Contributes to and implements strategic concepts to reduce costs and increases service according to company requirements
People Management. Ensures that good people practices are deployed in the transport department. (Training, coaching, mentoring).
Act as first point of contact for the client on site and manager resources to meet demands
Is responsible to ensure that all activities are in adherence to Service Agreements and local governance
Direct investigations to verify and resolve customer or shipper complaints
Implement schedule and policy changes
Collaborate with other managers and staff members in order to formulate and implement policies, procedures, goals and objectives
Monitor operations to ensure that staff members comply with policies and procedures, safety rules and government regulations
Promote safe work activities by conducting safety audits, attending company safety meetings, and meeting with individual staff members
Direct and coordinate activities in order to maximise the use of equipment, facilities and human resources
Assist in allocation of resources to improve operational performance and monitor regularly
Participate in monthly performance meetings
Recognise and reward safe behaviour. Challenge and counsel improvements to eliminate unsafe behaviour. Report on action failures to comply with safety standards or procedures
Ability to coach and encourage others to attain their own personal standards
ESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
A minimum of 3-5 years previous experience in a similar role
Certificate IV in Frontline Management, equivalent or greater
Sound knowledge of the transport industry and business management
Experience in bulk transport preferred
MSIC Card or ability to obtain
