The Position: You will be responsible for effectively managing the daily operations of the Engineering Services Department, which encompasses roads, drainage, water supply, sewerage, parks, buildings, structures and the airport. Working from a newly built depot, this role presents an excellent opportunity to deliver and maintain critical services for the wider community.
Experience and Qualifications: Council is seeking a hands-on leader with an understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and a commitment to increasing the engagement of local workers in the Engineering Services Department. Additionally, you must possess:
Extensive experience in the development of specifications and management of infrastructure and maintenance programs.
Exceptional time management and coordination capabilities with proven experience delivering capital works projects within stipulated timeframes.
Experience with tendering, cost estimation for works and services, purchasing of equipment and the overall preparation and monitoring of budgetary requirements.
Provision of technical advice and the ability to liaise and build relationships with agencies, including the Department of Transport and Main Roads, Q-Build and the Department of Housing and Public Works.
Well-developed interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills including effective leadership and mentoring in a multi-disciplinary environment.
Ability to manage the preparation and testing of Council’s Local Disaster Management Plan and in times of a natural disaster, coordinating Council’s response.
Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering and/or a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role, managing civil construction and maintenance works in a remote location.
Current ‘C’ class Drivers Licence, Australian Permanent Residency and willingness to undergo a Criminal History check.
Base salary: $160,000 plus superannuation.

Furnished air-conditioned accommodation provided.
Utilities: phone, internet, gas, electricity and pay TV expenses covered.
Travel: $10,000 for travel within Queensland.
