The Role Our client is a private agribusiness operating a major dairy operation close to Smithton in Tasmania. They are seeking an experienced dairy herd manager to manage all aspects of a herd currently consisting of around 400-500 cows with plans for expansion. The farm is located in pristine dairy production country within a short 30-minute drive to Smithton. This is an outstanding opportunity for a person or partners to work in a highly supportive and positive team-based environment.
Responsibilities Overall daily, weekly and seasonal management of the dairy herd including milking, herd health, breeding and raising of replacements. Supervise employees who milk, feed and care for cattle. Plan feeding programs in co-operation with farm manager/owner. Assist with farm work and/or machinery maintenance as time permits.
To be successful in this role candidates must have the following skills and experience:
Medium to Large herd management experience
Skills in dairy reproduction and health, including AI programs
Excellent knowledge and skills in herd health and nutrition
Self-starter who is highly motivated, efficient and committed
Experience in supervision of staff and ability to work as a team leader
Exceptional communication and organisational skills – attention to detail
Integral knowledge of works of dairy plant and operation
Remuneration An attractive salary package commensurate with experience will be offered to the successful applicant and will include accommodation and use of a vehicle. There is also the opportunity of having your partner work on the farm.
