Housing Administration Officer

1x full-time (35hrs/week) Position

The Housing Administration Officer will be employed under the conditions of the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010.

Broken Hill Local Aboriginal Land Council (BHLALC) has a vacancy for 1 full-time Housing and Administration Officer position to join our team.  Continued employment is subject to ongoing funding and work performance.  Both on the job and formal training will be provided in the area of Social Housing management.

The Housing Administration Officer will be responsible for providing quality tenancy, property and asset management on behalf of the BHLALC in accordance with the BHLALC Housing Policy and will undertake the following duties;

  • Assist with the management of the Social Housing program in accordance with the operational budget and relevant policies and procedures;
  • Rent, water usage and tenant sundry debt management, including the timely, accurate, and efficient recording of rent collection;
  • Tenancy and property management, including repairs and maintenance management, signups, inspections, and liaising with tenants and
  • Assist with general finance and administrative duties.

Selection Criteria


  • Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification as authorised by Part 2, division 2, Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act, 1977,
  • Knowledge of Local Aboriginal communities and issues, particularly in relation to housing,
  • At least 2 years proven work experience in tenancy, property or asset management and understanding of the requirements on the NSW Residential Tenancies Act and other relevant acts,
  • Demonstrated high level written and oral communication skills,
  • Proven ability to work with diverse client groups and use initiative, judgment and high-level problem-solving skills, particularly in assessment of need and provision of services,
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to set and meet deadlines whilst maintaining a high degree of confidentiality,
  • Ability to work as part as a team,
  • Proven computer literacy, including at least 2 years work experience in word processing, data base, spreadsheets, email and internet usage,
  • A proven successful record in the management of accounts and records,
  • Current NSW Working with Children Check or the ability to obtain,
  • Knowledge of and commitment to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and in Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) principles


  • Knowledge of the NSW Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983.
