Method Consulting is seeking high calibre and experienced Design Manager to join a well-respected Commercial and Industrial Builder. This is a pivotal position within a well-established and thriving business who are stable and an employer of choice. They typically are involved in building offices, warehouses, aged care, childcare, service stations and have a large presence in retail which they want to continue to build on. Our client would like the new Design Manager to start in January where you will get a handover from the existing Design Manager. Responsibilities include:

• This position reports directly to the General Manager
• Ability to lead Design Teams and other Stakeholders i.e. Architects, Engineering Consultants, clients and other staff members
• Identify technical challenges and work to drive solutions and develop mitigation strategies i.e. this can be on fully documented drawings that are to be tendered on or in non-conforming bids (although most of the work is D+C)
• Working from conceptual to actual project delivery is essential in this role
• Ensure all consultants and departments are working with the latest architectural and design information
• Assess and recommend the best method of construction for different project types - including speed, cost and quality considerations
• Providing expert technical advice, accuracy and quality for all design projects
• Create project construction programs for tenders and contracts
• Review consultant output and agreements for compliance with the design brief
• Ensure the design process recognises current legislation, standards and codes of practice

Skills, Experience and Attributes:

• Must be tertiary qualified i.e. Architecture, Structural Engineering
• Ideally have 10 + years experience in Design Management in commercial and industrial construction 
• Proven ability to problem solve complex issues
• Design + Construct project experience
• Strong understanding of a projects buildability
• Appreciation of materials selection 
• You must be a team player who can also work in just as well in autonomy
• Must have the technical design knowledge and ability to assess the best direction due to engineering or design principles
• Be able to demonstrate a knowledge of different building systems and the associated advantages, disadvantages and costs
• Be able to demonstrate a step-by-step knowledge of the design process and the responsibilities of each consultant
• Ability to multi-task and look after more than one project  
• Must have strong negotiation skills
• A proven ability to develop relationships
• High attention to detail and sense of urgency
• Proficient with design IT packages and all general project software
• Must be commercially astute very important
• Strong understanding and appreciation of Health and Safety
• Must have WA experience
