Trainee Animal Welfare Inspector

Full-time

RSPCA ACT, Canberras only full-service animal welfare charity, has an opportunity available for a trainee Inspector with progression to appointment as an Inspector. RSPCA ACT Inspectors investigate welfare complaints, give help and advice on animal care, carry out rescues, collect sick and injured animals, inspect animal establishments and bring alleged offenders to court.  This role is rewarding in terms of making a difference to animal welfare and offers variety and daily challenges.  The role is demanding and will call on all your judgement and personal skills.  The emphasis is on working with people and you need to be able to communicate clearly and effectively with a wide range of people and agencies.

Essential requirements for this position include:

  • Qualifications in Investigations or equivalent or the capability and willingness to undertake training arranged by RSPCA ACT in order to attain the qualifications required of an Inspector.
  • A valid and current manual drivers licence.
  • Basic knowledge of animal care and handling.
  • A demonstrated interest in animal welfare.
  • Physical fitness and good character.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact with a diverse range of individuals from both within and outside RSPCA ACT.
  • A high degree of motivation and the demonstrated ability to work well as part of a team.
  • Qualifications in Veterinary nursing are desirable.

Salary and conditions are in line with the Animal Care and Veterinary Services Award 2010 Inspector Level 1.
