Voxon Photonics is the creator of the VX1, the Worlds most advanced 3D volumetric  (holographic) display. Based at Flinders University at Tonsley, the business has been on a development journey for several years and has now developed and released its first commercial product to the global market. Voxon is now seeking the services of a Mechatronic Engineer to work with the company on R&D, product development and manufacturing improvement largely driven by customer demand for alternative form factors to suit applications in Medical Imaging, Defence, Gaming, Education, Engineering, Automotive and many other applications.

About the role:

We are seeking applications from a qualified graduate Mechatronics Engineer to work with us at Tonsley. You will be a key member of a small specialist team developing 3D volumetric holographic displays from the ground up for various market opportunities. The business has a strong team structure based on the key disciplines of strategic management, sales, marketing and product development. There is a clear focus on R&D and rapid prototyping. What are the core aspects of the role

  • Conducting modelling, simulation and analysis of electronic/mechanical systems.

  • Designing, building and implementing prototype designs.

  • Recommending modifications following prototype test results.

  • Developing processes to move approved prototypes to manufacturing.

  • Drafting dimensional drawings for the manufacturing of mechanical components.

  • Manage migration to small scale manufacturing and assembly.

  • Managing additional internal/external specialist resources/suppliers as required.

  • Developing project specifications with colleagues, often including those from other engineering disciplines.

  • Create mechanical design documents for parts, assemblies, or finished products and maintain full and accurate project files.

  • Develop and maintain strong version control disciplines.

  • Design, develop, or implement control circuits for electromechanical systems.

  • Create mechanical models and tolerance analyses to simulate mechatronic design concepts through implementing or test design solutions.

  • Design and prototype PCB and cable assemblies, and develop manufacturing documentation.

  • Research and evaluate options to determine the feasibility, costs, or performance benefits of new mechatronic equipment. 

  • Prepare engineering reports documenting design details or qualification test results. 

  • Research, select, or apply sensors, communication technologies, or control devices for motion control or position sensing. 

  • Manage relationships with local and overseas manufacturers and suppliers.

The skills and experience we need:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Engineering is essential.

  • Exemplary customer service skills, a positive and can-do attitude with strong accuracy and attention to detail in completing allocated projects. 

  • Demonstrable experience with the use of 3D CAD, 3D Modelling proficiency with the Autodesk Inventor or Fusion 360 environment preferred.

  • Experience with mechanical technical drawings as well as a working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing concepts - familiarity with AS1100 is preferred but not essential.

  • Experience with PCB design - proficiency with either the Autodesk EAGLE or the Mentor Graphics environment is preferred.

  • Possess a strong work ethic, be a team player and have a commitment to both individual and team goal achievements.

  • Strong level of interpersonal communication skills [written and verbal]; combined with excellent time management and coordinating skills and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.

  • Strong project management capabilities.

  • Possess high-level skills in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite packages.

  • Establish strong rapport with customers, suppliers and managers to provide advice on executing deliverables leading to successful project outcomes.

  • Be able to travel interstate and internationally as required for major customer events or key demonstrations.

  • Have a current drivers licence and passport

  • Ensure that employee safety is regarded in the highest priority with zero major/lost time injuries.
