Project Manager - Structural Steel Fabrication Business

Well-regarded group - Established Victoria Office - Great progression pathway;, Delivering complex projects with well known Tier 1 & 2 builders in VIC, Offering $150 - $200K


As a Project Manager, you will be working closely with the GM of Melbourne and be responsible for delivering projects on time, within budgets and scopes by coordinating resources with vendors for the flawless execution of projects.

You will have a strong ability to set deadlines, assign responsibilities and monitor and summarise the progress of the project and report into upper management regarding the status of projects.


  • Attend meeting organised by Contract Administrator to discuss newly awarded projects;
  • Establish contact with the client representative and organise site meeting;
  • Establishing a site crew;
  • Establish programme and site dates and ensure progressive site visits
  • Setting up budget and plant hire;
  • Completing paperwork prior to commencing works on-site;
  • Monthly reporting for upper-level management;
  • Work closely with site crew and leading hands ensuring the project has sufficient staffing requirement;
  • Regular communication with the detailers during approval design as changes to the original design may be required in order to help erection or transporting steel to site;
  • Monitor quality control and liaise with health and safety departments;
  • Notifying appropriate departments of any delays/acceleration to the programme dates so fabrication can be adjusted to reflect the change;
  • Contact with plant hire companies is essential as every project will require plant hire;
  • Negotiating budgets and lock in the pricing with contractors for the steel;


  • Degree in Civil/Structural engineering or Diploma in Project Management and or 5 years’ experience in a project management role;
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Project, Word and Excel;
  • Leadership Skills: You will have to keep your employees motivated, resolve conflicts and make hard decisions for your employees;
  • Time Management: You will be working with employees, customers and management, often spinning multiple plates at once;
  • Math and Budgeting: You are expected to keep and maintain a budget in almost every field. You will need to be confident in using math skills to make sure you know where your company's money is going;
  • Analytical Skills: You will also need analytical skills to be able to solve problems that may come up during a typical workday. You will be analysing data and making decisions that affect the project on a regular basis;
  • Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills
  • Understanding of construction and integration of trades during the project
  • Able to read and understand construction drawings
  • Understanding of WHS
  • EWP licence (SL)
