About the Role: This 8 month contract role, reporting to the Finance Controller, this role has responsibility for managing all monthly financial accounting and external compliance obligations, including delivering full year statutory financial report, and annual compliance reporting.  

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

This is a broad role that requires a pro-active, hands on Accountant or Financial Accountant.  The business is expanding dramatically providing the opportunity to be involved in ad hoc projects and contribute to constant process improvements.

Financial Reporting

  • Prepare and review bank reconciliations
  • Process and review monthly journals, accruals and prepayments
  • Management of Fixed asset register (additions, disposals & depreciation)
  • Maintain foreign currency exchange rate table, managing P&L revaluation and balance sheet retranslation
  • Prepare the monthly intercompany reconciliation
  • Prepare and review monthly general ledger reconciliations
  • Maintain balance sheet and deliver monthly group balance sheet statements
  • Prepare of annual statutory accounts and audit
  • Other ad hoc requirements from management


  • Prepare and review all tax compliance for Australia and New Zealand (BAS, Payroll tax, FBT, PAYG)
  • Preparation of annual income tax for review by external advisors

People & Leadership

  • Provide mentoring support and training to potential assistant accountant
  • Coordinate with shared services and front office management and staff

Skills and experience

You must be an Australian Permanent Resident or Australian citizen to be considered for this role.

Qualifications & experience

  • CPA/CA qualified or studying towards, with 2+ years commercial experience in financial reporting
  • Experience in Ecommerce business ideal
  • Experience in setting up process and system integration preferable

  • Strong understanding and knowledge of accounting principles and standards
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of Australian regulatory environment including statutory accounting, taxation (income tax, GST, FBT, PAYG) superannuation, payroll tax and workers compensation
  • Foreign exchange management and reporting experience
  • Financial and risk management

Software Applications

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Xero experience ideal

Outputs and Deliverables 

  • Maintain internal relationships with Australian and China management
  • Maintain internal relationships with shared services staff in China
  • Maintain external relationships with auditors, tax advisors, bankers and insurers
  • Preparation of annual statutory accounts and audit
  • Ensure Australian and New Zealand compliance obligations
  • Seek continuous improvement in external reporting
