Who We Are:

Moana New Zealand is the largest Mori owned fisheries company in New Zealand. All profits we make are returned to Mori in the form of dividends, with the balance retained to fund long term growth initiatives of Moana New Zealand. Aotearoa Fisheries is an important part of the inter-generational Mori Fisheries Settlement with the Crown.  The nature of that settlement means that Mori will always be involved in fisheries; activities and investments have a long-term perspective.  These settlement assets can never be sold. We take a uniquely long-term view in everything we do, abiding by the customary principle of Kaitiakitanga.

We are Iwi; we are true guardians of the worlds most pristine and sustainably managed fisheries, with a deep sense of responsibility to our people and respect for kaimoana and kai ora.

Our Opportunity:

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will take responsibility for developing and implementing a unified and companywide approach to all aspects of strategic and operational financial and commercial management.

A proven leader and people manager you will have a natural ability to develop relationships and effective partnerships at all levels, providing qualified and meaningful advice and thought leadership to a range of stakeholders; CEO, Executive Team, Audit,  Risk and Assurance Committee, Board of Directors and our Iwi shareholders.

This unique environment will provide you with an opportunity to add significant value and play an instrumental part in the development of robust governance frameworks; the improvement of systems and processes and the enhancement of financial and management reporting.

A respected and talented people manager, you will set about further developing a cohesive and high performing team. As a key decision maker and leader, you will relish the chance to identify and effectively assess opportunities while mitigating risks and providing solutions to challenges; your collaborative and engaging approach will make you a considerable asset to the Executive Team.

With a broad commercial and legal acumen and genuine affinity with the organisation and its stakeholders, you will be as comfortable in the Board Room as you are on the factory floor.

As a natural communicator your leadership style will inspire high levels of credibility performance and engagement and help shape a new and effective approach to leadership, providing clear direction to all our people, ensuring team and individuals are aligned to well defined goals and strategic objectives.

You will thrive in an environment of transformation, change and innovation whilst being respectful to Moana New Zealands heritage and the values and vision that underpin everything they do, what they stand for and their purpose.

What You Will Bring:

The CFO appointment is an exciting career move for an experienced senior finance leader and professional with a proven background in:

  • Board reporting and shareholder engagement
  • Governance, risk and compliance
  • Strategic planning, M&A, budgeting and forecasting
  • Treasury management
  • Company secretarial responsibilities
  • Financial management and reporting
  • Team and culture leadership and development

You will need experience as a senior finance leader, ideally at a CFO level or equivalent and be either CA / CPA qualified, perhaps with an MBA or similar; with a successful career working in commercially oriented companies across industries such as primary, manufacturing or FMCG sectors. Having experience with fresh / perishable products would be advantageous.

Importantly your experience will also include involvement in a large complex and multisite environment with a significant asset base requiring strategic impact, financial acumen, and effective management of stakeholder pressure.

You will bring an awareness and affinity for the needs and aspiration of Mori and an understanding and interest in developing your knowledge of Iwi economic and social aspirations. Previous experience working with Iwi combined with a commitment to tikanga and Te Reo Mori would be highly valued.
