Full-time fixed term position until Aug 2020 with possibility of extension, Canberra based position within Defence Training Centre, Applicants must have minimum NV2 Defence security clearance.
Cubic Defence Australia provides training systems and training services support primarily to the Australian Department of Defence, and is a subsidiary of US Cubic Corporation which specialises in military training simulation systems and services globally. Cubic supports an expanding range of Australian-based operations, providing Defence services, support and maintenance for Cubic's simulation and training systems from offices in Townsville, Brisbane, Amberley, Newcastle and Canberra. This position is Canberra based.
About the Opportunity
This is a senior executive-level management role, with significant autonomy and responsibility for outcomes in a direct, customer facing role within a combined Defence and Public Service environment. The Deputy Director Operations will manage a team responsible for identification and planning of future Joint Exercises, simulation systems and capability development requirements for Defence in respond to the demands of the changing training requirements of an evolving ADF.
The successful candidate will possess a 'hands on' management approach, be commercially astute, and willing and available to undertake field operations. They will demonstrate the following qualifications and experience:
- Previous Military experience at the O4/O5 level (psc preferred),
- Experience in Collective Training design, management and evaluation.
- Project management experience including previous responsibility for project finance and reporting.
- Experienced working in project delivery within the military / defence environment.
- Professional Services experience would be advantageous.
Serving members of the ADF must have declared their intention to discharge prior to Cubic receiving their formal application.
Personal Qualities and Experience
The successful candidate will have superior organisational skills, the ability to plan ahead, problem-solve on the fly, and lead several teams of professionals concurrently to provide superior and cost effective solutions. They will demonstrate a strong collective training background in and be able to directly support exercise delivery where required. The successful candidate will have highly developed communication and interpersonal relationship management skills.
Applicants must demonstrate excellent verbal communication skills; specifically, they must be able to engage effectively with military personnel at all rank levels.
All applicants must be Australian citizens and hold as a minimum a current NV2 Australian Defence security clearance.
This position is only available to Australian citizens. Permanent residents and working visa holders will not be considered, as the incumbent must currently hold an Australian Defence Security Clearance. Australian citizenship is a prerequisite for this clearance, and this position.
