About the Organisation
The City of Port Phillip is an inner-city council with around 1000 employees who deliver more than 100 programs and services to our residents, businesses and visitors. These range from childcare and immunisations, to libraries, management of parks and open space, rubbish collection, road maintenance and Environmental Sustainability.
About the Role
The role will suit an experienced environmental professional looking for an opportunity to be at the forefront of tackling the waste management and recycling challenges facing Victoria.
The Coordinator Waste Futures leads a small team of subject matter experts to achieve ambitious targets outlined in the Dont Waste It! Waste Management Strategy 2018-28 and support the broader objectives and programs of the Environmental Sustainability Department.
This role requires resource recovery and circular economy expertise along with excellent communication and collaboration skills that are needed to achieve improved outcomes both within the organisation and in the community. With a diverse portfolio of projects this role is also required to oversee the delivery and implementation of Councils Site Contamination Risk Register and Management Plan.
This job is for you if you are ready to hit the ground running and tackle new and emerging priorities for waste management and recycling, guided by Council and State government policy responses to developing a circular economy.
Skills and Experience
Tertiary qualification in environmental planning/management, environmental science, or a related field and at least 5 years relevant professional experience;
Experience leading a team to improve services or deliver projects that involve multiple stakeholders and interests;
Demonstrated understanding of the challenges, opportunities and barriers to providing waste services in a local government context now and in the future;
Demonstrated understanding of contaminated site management and associated legislative requirements;
