The role Brisbane Girls Grammar School is seeking a suitably qualified Laboratory TechnicianBiology, to provide high-level technical support to academic staff in the Science Faculty.
Key Accountabilities Duties include, but are not limited to:
providing support to academic staff in the Science Faculty, in particular Biology teachers
assisting with preparation of teaching material for science classes, assessment and practical exams
working with Biology teachers to trial and assist with the successful completion of senior biotechnology practicals. This may include DNA digestion, gel electrophoresis and fragment analysis, protein denaturation, separation and identification, and bacterial transformations using genetically engineered plasmids
supporting teachers on field trips and in practical classes
providing and maintaining all equipment required for data collection, including various chemical water tests and aiding with macro invertebrate identification
preparing and troubleshooting experiments for use by students at all year levels
managing the laboratoriescontrolling stock, determining class requirements, coordinating resources, ensuring current Safety Data Sheets are available and monitoring the department budget
maintaining risk assessments and ensuring work practices comply with School and legislative workplace health and safety requirements
ensuring correct disposal of waste, including chemical and biohazardous waste, and updating resource databases and hazardous substance registers.
Qualifications and experience required
Possess relevant tertiary qualifications in science or laboratory technologies
Relevant experience in a similar role, preferably in the education sector
Demonstrated advanced computer skills, including a sound understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite and data logging devices
Experience in laboratory management
Flexible, hands-on approach to assist teachers within and beyond the classroom environment
Thorough knowledge and understanding of workplace health and safety regulations, as they apply to laboratories
Hold a valid Working with Children (Blue Card) positive notice
