St Vincents Institute (SVI) is a progressive and internationally recognized medical research organization located on the fringe of Melbournes CBD. It currently supports an exceptional body of medical research scientists working on leading edge discoveries in the prevention and improved treatment of many of todays big health questions - diabetes, immunology, metabolism and weight, heart disease, osteoporosis, Alzheimers and cancer of the blood, bone and breast.
The research at SVI is made possible by funding from a range of national and international government and private bodies, including National Health & Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and private Trusts and Foundations.
The Grants Coordinator plays a crucial role in maximising SVIs grant application success. Reporting to the Head of Research Strategy, the incumbent will act as a conduit between the organisation and funding bodies and partner with SVIs medical researchers to provide support and guidance on the funding submission process such as reviewing applications, providing feedback on structure, purpose, clarity and eligibility. The Grants Coordinator will be proactive at identifying new sources of funding and build linkages between the organisation and those funding sources.
There are a range of administrative functions in the role that also include timely reporting to funding bodies as well to internal departments such as Business, Finance and Human Resources.
The Grants Coordinator will understand Australias medical research sector, the research funding processes and will have demonstrated success in securing research revenue from private or government sources. Ideally the incumbent will have a PhD, or similar post graduate qualifications in Biological Science. Excellent interpersonal skills, time management and attention to detail, proficiency in database management and Microsoft Office applications will be critical to success in the role.
